Bengaluru: Ending the long wait of farmers of Old Mysuru region, the State Cabinet on Thursday decided to set up a new Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences University at Vishweshwaraiah Canal Farm (popularly known as V.C. Farm) campus located near Mandya on Mandya-Melukote road.
Announcing this at a press meet after the Cabinet meeting here, Law Minister H.K. Patil said that at present, the V.C. Farm campus houses the College of Agriculture. The cost of the new University is estimated at Rs. 285.89 crore.
The new University will include the present Agriculture College at V.C. Farm, Agriculture College, Hassan, Agriculture College, Chamarajanagar, College of Forestry, Ponnampet and College of Horticultural Sciences, Mysuru, which currently comes under Bagalkot Horticultural University.
The new University will have jurisdiction covering Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts, Patil said adding that the Agricultural University will come up on the Model of Shivamogga University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences.
