Mysuru: Dasara Sports is one of the major attractions of the ongoing Navarathri celebrations in the city and athletes in large numbers have descended at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium to participate in various sports and games in the Chief Minister’s Cup.
However, there is danger in store for them as a manhole cover right opposite to the entrance of the Stadium on Hyder Ali Road close to the SP Office is broken yesterday and the open manhole is posing danger to everyone.
It is learnt that a bus carrying athletes to the stadium was parked right on the manhole yesterday and as a result the cover broke. This is a very busy road as most of the transport buses including the KSRTC use this road to go towards T. Narasipur, Malavalli and Bannur.
The manhole cannot be seen from a distance. Only when one gets close it can be spotted. In fact, two or three people on two-wheelers skidded and fell when they rode over it yesterday. Now, one or two interlocked tiles has been placed around it for people to spot and negotiate the manhole.
Will the authorities concerned step in and take immediate action and repair the manhole or will they continue to ignore and wait for a major disaster to happen at this place?
