Mysore/Mysuru: In a unique move on the first phase of LS elections held in Karnataka yesterday, Manipal Hospital Mysuru, with the support of the Election Commission of India, spearheaded a crucial initiative to guarantee that every citizen, regardless of their medical condition, could exercise their fundamental right to vote.
They pioneered efforts to provide essential transportation facility in ambulance and medical assistance to six in-patients who were eager to cast their vote.
Among the patients were: Shobha Rani, a 37-year-old with complaints of acute left-sided headache and spontaneous nasal bleeding (epistaxis), who is currently undergoing treatment under Dr. H.A. Dathathri, Consultant ENT-Head and Neck Surgery. Aruna Yadav, a 53-year-old patient, who underwent a laparoscopic hysterectomy on Apr. 24, under the adept hands of Dr. K.G. Amulya, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the hospital. She is currently recovering and being monitored at the hospital.
Navya Shree, 28 years, who is receiving treatment for acute lower respiratory tract infection by Dr. R. Lakshmi Narasimhan, Consultant Pulmonology also exercised her franchise before returning to the hospital.
Despite their health challenges, the other patients namely Nikhil, Noor Ahmadi and Tejaswi also voted, as they were determined to exercise their voting rights. The team at Manipal Hospital Mysuru, helped them with transportation by ambulance and medical assistance to ensure safe travel to designated voting booths to cast their votes without any hassles.
