Many join sparring over KRS Dam safety

MP Sumalatha to visit quarrying sites today to ascertain illegality

Mysore/Mysuru: The war of words between former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy that started with his distasteful remarks — that Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambarish should be made to sleep across the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam to prevent leakage — took a new turn last evening as Sumalatha decided to visit several illegal mining areas in Srirangapatna taluk and Pandavapura taluk today.

The controversy now has many stakeholders including JD(S) MLA from Srirangapatna, Ravindra Srikantaiah, who has fired the fresh salvo on Sumalatha accusing her of ‘crossing limits’ and also Congress Spokesperson M. Lakshmana who said that rampant mining and blasting activity around the Dam will surely damage the structure and there must be a ban on mining.

As part of her visit, Suma-latha today is scheduled to inspect mining areas near Chennannakere in Srirangapatna taluk at 2.30 pm and will proceed towards Hangarahalli at 3.30 pm and then to Baby Betta in Pandavapura taluk at 4.30 pm.
