Mysore/Mysuru: In a shocking wee-hour crime, a family was robbed at knife-point while sleeping in their home by two masked men who quickly escaped with gold, silver and cash worth over Rs. 3.15 lakh. The robbers held daggers to the throat and chest of a 21-year-old student to extract information about the valuables in the house.

The incident occurred at Siddiqui Nagar, First Main Road, at 3.45 am on July 10, at the residence of Mohammad Huzaif, a student at a private college. The family also owns an electrical shop on K.T. Street. An FIR has been registered at Narasimharaja Police Station.

The family resides in a three-storey house. While the victim’s parents were sleeping on the ground floor, Mohammad Huzaif was on the first floor. His brother and sister-in-law lived on the second floor.

The robbers broke into the house through the main door on the ground floor. The family was in deep early morning sleep and did not hear the sound of the housebreak. The thieves then headed to the first floor and opened the door. Hearing the sound, Mohammad Huzaif woke up to see two masked men, one of whom held a dagger to his throat.

Harrowing experience

“The masked intruders, wearing gloves, spoke Malayalam and communicated in broken English with me, demanding information about the jewellery and cash in the house. They were particularly asking for women and their valuables. They threatened to kill me, and one of them pierced the dagger into my pillow, telling me they could do the same to my chest,” Huzaif told Star of Mysore.

When the victim pointed to the shelf, the robbers took away Rs. 15,000 in cash, a silver chain, a bracelet and two rings. They barged into the next bedroom and found Rs. 30,000 in cash. The robbers then entered the ground-floor bedroom where Huzaif’s parents were sleeping and took away Rs. 1,20,000 in cash and two gold bangles weighing 30 grams.

“My brother and his wife were sleeping on the second floor and I raised an alarm, alerting them to lock their doors and not to come out. One of the robbers came menacingly at me and held the dagger to my throat, threatening to kill me if I raised an alarm. He asked me who else resided in the house to which I replied three members. Fortunately, my brother and his wife did not come out,” Huzaif said.

As the robbers exited through the main door, Huzaif saw that they had come on a black Pulsar bike. They wore backpacks containing knives, a rope, and a towel. DCP (Crime and Traffic) S. Jahnavi and Narasimharaja Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar visited the house. A dog squad and fingerprint experts also came to gather clues.
