Mysore/Mysuru: A masked miscreant, who attempted to snatch a gold chain after throwing chilli powder on the victim was caught by the residents and handed over to the jurisdictional VV Puram Police.
The incident took place at Loco Colony of the Railway Quarters near Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) on Dec. 5 evening and the accused has been identified as Manju of Srirangapatna.
At about 7.30 pm on Dec. 5, 37-year-old B.G. Devaraju, a resident of J.C. Nagar and driver of Railway Department’s Divisional Signal and Communication Engineer Gaurav Dangode, dropped the Engineer to his quarters and was proceeding near the compound of the quarters when the masked accused threw chilli powder into his eyes and tried to snatch the gold chain he (Devaraju) was wearing.
Engineer Gaurav immediately rushed to the help of Devaraju, but the accused threw chilli powder into his eyes too. But Devaraju and Gaurav had caught the accused tightly and in the meantime, the residents of the Colony rushed to their help and caught the accused, giving him no chance to escape.
They later handed over accused Manju to VV Puram Police Station.
