Rs. 82,290 cash, mobile phones seized
Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, who raided two tea shops, have arrested two persons for indulging in matka and cricket betting and have seized a total of Rs. 82,290 cash from them.
In the first case, the CCB Police, who raided a tea shop on Shanthinagar 1st Main Road on Feb. 17, arrested a man for conducting matka business and have seized Rs. 5,490 from him. A case has been registered at Udayagiri Police Station.
In the second case, the Cops who raided another tea shop on Lokaranjan Mahal Road on Feb. 18, arrested a person for indulging in cricket betting on mobile phones and have seized Rs. 76,800 and two mobile phones from him. A case has been registered at Nazarbad Police Station.
DCP (Crime and Traffic) M.S. Geetha Prasanna and CCB ACP C.K. Ashwathnarayan guided CCB Inspector A. Mallesh and staff R. Raju, Joseph Noronha, Janardhanrao, Anil, Arun Kumar, Raghu, Sunil and Srinivas in the nabbing and seizing operation.
Public places selected
Those indulging in matka and cricket betting are now selecting public places such as tea shops and parks instead of secluded places to hoodwink Police.
As majority of these type of betting take place through mobile phones, public places where there is huge rush are being selected.
In tea shops, those indulging in such betting come as customers and involve themselves in betting. Even if they sit for long time in tea shops, the shop owners assume that they are involved in online games and do not question them.
Taking all this into consideration, the Police have stepped up their vigil and are now collecting information from informants frequently.
Install CCTV cameras
Police said that tea shop owners should install CCTV camera in their shops so that such illegal activities would stop as those indulging in matka and cricket betting fear of getting caught on cameras.
CCTV cameras will also be helpful to trace criminals, the Police said and urged the public to inform the nearest Police Station or call the Police Control Room on Ph: 0821-2418339, if they come across any illegal activities taking place.
