Bengaluru: The health condition of Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal, who fell ill after consuming a liquid on a Delhi-bound flight yesterday, is said to be stable.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Karnataka State Cricket Association Hon. President K. Raghuram Bhat said Mayank would be flown back to Bengaluru for further treatment. “I have been in constant touch with hospital authorities in Agartala and monitoring the situation. We are confident of Mayank’s return to the ground soon,” he said.

According to sources, Mayank, assuming it to be water, drank a liquid that was in a pouch in front of his seat on the flight. Soon, he developed irritation in his mouth and couldn’t talk. Mayank was de-planed and rushed to ILS Hospital in Agartala where he was treated in ICU.

Karnataka Ranji Team Manager Ramesh Rao told SOM that he had filed a complaint with local Police to investigate the matter. “As soon as the team boarded the flight, Mayank consumed a liquid, said to be some kind of an acid for cleaning the seats once the passengers de-plane. It was difficult to identify water with two bottles being identical. However, Police have confiscated the bottle and sent it for forensic test,” he said.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Ranji team, which missed its connecting flight to Surat from Delhi following yesterday’s incident, arrived in Surat this morning. Karnataka will be playing its next Ranji match against Railways from Feb.2.
