Mayoral race hots up as Congress-JD(S) battle for post

Mysuru: Even as former Chief Minister and JD(S)-Congress coalition Government Co-ordination Committee Chairman Siddharamaiah on Sunday assured of making sincere efforts to make Congress  party Corporator as Mysuru Mayor.

District Minister G.T. Devegowda is said to have convened a meeting of JD(S) Corporators and party leaders at a hotel here this afternoon to discuss the Mayoral Polls.

Addressing a Congress party workers meeting on Sunday, Siddharamaiah said that he will discuss the Mysuru Mayor issue with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and JD(S) Supremo H. D. Deve Gowda.

Even though the JD(S) and Congress are running a Coalition Government in the State the two parties are yet to come to an understanding on the Mayor post, even as the Mayoral polls is likely to take place on Nov.17.

While the post of Mayor is reserved for General Category (Woman), the Deputy Mayor’s post is reserved for Backward Classes A (BC-A) category.

Out of the 65 wards, the BJP has 22, Congress 19, JD(S) 18 members and BSP 1 member and the rest five are independents in the 65 member MCC body.
