In an effort to encourage the rural games, the Mysuru City Corporation will be organising All India Kabaddi Floodlight Tournament – Mayor’s Gold Cup for both men and women at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium from Nov. 9 to 12, said Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, here yesterday.
Addressing the press persons at the Old Council Hall, here recently, he said that a total of 32 teams (16 men and 16 women) from Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Delhi, Secunderabad, Coimbatore, Kerala, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh and other places would be taking part in the tournament.
The tournament is being organised at a total of cost of Rs. 45 lakh. While the MCC has released Rs. 25 lakh the rest of the funds are being raised by Mayor and other people representatives.
The winners men’s category would be given a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh would be given to the second runner-up and Rs. 50,000 for third and fourth placed teams.
The winners in women’s category would take home a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh while the runner-up team would take Rs. One lakh cash prize. Third and fourth placed team would get Rs. 50,000.
Tournament organisers have also announced individual awards in various categories.
The tournament will be inaugurated by District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa on Nov. 9. MCC’s ambassador for Swachh Bharat AbhiyanJavagal Srinath and others will be present.
