MCC Commissioner inspects Bannur Road widening works

MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, accompanied by former Mayor and Corporator Sandesh Swamy, inspected the widening of Bannur Road stretch from Gopala Gowda Shanthaveri Memorial Hospital to Teresian College here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sandesh Swamy said that the widening is being taken up on the 2.75 km stretch of this National Highway. While some private parties have parted with 17 meters for road widening, the Department of Posts (DoP) is yet to give space for the widening and this has hindered the widening works.

Mysuru- Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has been appealed to extent pressure on the Union Government as the Postal Department is under its control, he said and added that the Postal Department has to part with   15 mts of land for taking up widening.

Continuing, he said that the new DC Office is coming up in German Press premises. Also,   as the Bannur Road is unable to handle a huge surge in vehicular movement, road mishaps on  this stretch of the road has become common these days, he said while elaborating on the urgent need for widening of the road.

Superintendent Engineer B.K. Suresh Babu, MCC Zone-9  Assistant Commissioner Puttaseshagiri, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and MCC Officials were present.
