Mysuru: Implementing the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had organised a workshop for street vendors at Vidyashankara Kalyana Mantapa near Gun House here recently to apprise them of municipal rules.
An awareness on cleanliness, hygiene and food safety was also created among the street vendors. Identity Cards were also issued to them.
Inaugurating the programme Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath disclosed that MCC had made provision at designated places for street vendors to carry on with their business. She asked the vendors to strictly abide by the stipulated rules regarding quality of food, hygiene and proper storage.
Additional MCC Commissioner M.N. Shashikumar asked the street vendors to be disciplined and not to neglect cleanliness.
MCC Health Officer Dr. M.S. Jayanth said that 1,896 street vendors have been identified in 9 Zones and ID Cards have been issued to them.
He asked the vendors to stick to the allotted places without drifting elsewhere. He emphasised that street vending should not inconvenience pedestrians and others. He warned of strict action against violators. He insisted on using good water and utensils for preparing food without foregoing cleanliness and hygiene at any stage.
He asked them not to throw waste indiscriminately but dispose the waste scientifically.
Assistant Commissioners Ranjith Kumar, Geetha Udedha, Muralidhar, Karnataka State Street Vendors Federation President Bhaskar and others were present.
The workshop was held till Aug.31 and covered street vendors of all zones.
