A City Court has sentenced an MCC official to six years imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 10,000 on him.
Jagadish, a Statistical Officer with the MCC, is the one who has been sentenced. Jagadish had demanded Rs. 5,000 bribe for issuing death certificate of one Johnsy Thompanel of Kerala who died in a road mishap near Bylakuppe on Mysuru-Madikeri Road on Sept.10, 2010.
Johnson, a relative of the deceased Thompanel, paid Rs. 2,000 as ‘advance’ to Jagadish. But as Jagadish began to pester for Rs. 3,000 more as bribe, Johnson lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta Police, who trapped Jagadish while accepting Rs. 3,000 from Johnson on Oct. 6, 2010. The Lokayukta Police after completing investigation filed a charge-sheet against Jagadish.
The 3rd Sessions Court and Special Lokayukta Court Judge Sudheendranath, who heard the case, held Jagadish guilty of the charges and sentenced him.
Public Prosecutor Muthamma Poonachha argued on behalf of the State.
