MCC by-poll: Training for polling officers

Public campaigning ends at 7am tomorrow

Mysuru: The public campaigning for MCC ward 32 by-poll reached its peak today, with the candidates of the 3 main political parties-Congress, BJP and JD(S) making a last minute bid to woo the voters. The public campaigning will end at 7am tomorrow. The by-poll will take place on July 2 (Sunday) between 7am and 5pm.

The ward has 10,201 voters (plus 63 postal ballots) in its rolls. EVM’s (Electronic Voting Machines) will be used for the by-poll. A total of 12 booths have been set up across the ward, which comprises V.V. Mohalla, Vontikoppal and parts of Gokulam.

The mustering and de-mustering of EVMs and other poll materials will be held at Maharaja Sanskrit Pathashala near the MCC main office on Sayyaji Rao road. With hardly a couple of days left for the by-poll, a training session for first polling officers and presiding officers was held at the MCC this morning.

Congress candidate B.K. Prakash, accompanied by MLA Vasu and other congress leaders, went on a door to door campaign in Gokulam, pourakarmika colony and surrounding areas. BJP candidate K. Madesh, accompanied by City BJP President Dr. B.H. Manjunath and some party Corporators, undertook a brisk door-to-door campaign at several roads in V.V. Mohalla, Gokulam and old Vontikoppal.

JD(S) candidate SBM Manju, accompanied by Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Marithibbegowda and other party leaders and Corporators, undertook campaigning in V.V. Mohalla, CFTRI quarters, Nirmala Convent and surrounding areas.

Even as the candidates went on a brisk campaign, the people aired their civic woes and some residents even sought assurance from the candidates that the proposed waste disposal plant to be set up at Gokulam burial ground, close to the Gokulam BSNL office, be shifted elsewhere, it is learnt.
