MCC refusing to clear UGD overflow despite follow-ups

October 17, 2025

Sir,

I wish to draw the attention of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner to a long-standing problem faced by residents of 11th Main, 21st Cross, D-Block, J.P. Nagar. For the past year, the underground drainage (UGD) line has been overflowing twice every month and sewage flows into the open drain in front of our house. This has resulted in an unbearable stench and unhygienic conditions, making it extremely difficult to live in our own homes. The situation is so severe that even sitting indoors has become unpleasant and it has started to affect our health.

Despite repeated complaints to the MCC helpline, the issue is only temporarily resolved. The staff attend to it after a few days, but the problem recurs soon after. The helpline is also difficult to reach as there is only one landline for all complaints.

The UGD workers and the Health Inspector have advised us to raise this matter publicly so that the higher authorities can take permanent action. One of our neighbours has even sold their house due to this persistent nuisance. We pay substantial property taxes and expect at least a clean and livable environment in return. We, therefore, request the concerned officials to take urgent and permanent steps to resolve this UGD issue.
