MCC Ward 18 by-poll on Feb.9: Public campaigning ends

Mysore/Mysuru: With just two days to go for voting (Feb.9), public campaigning for MCC ward 18 (Yadavagiri) drew to a close at 7 am today.

The by-poll was necessitated after BJP Corporator from the Ward Guru Vinayak was disqualified over fake caste certificate row. The MCC Ward 18 is reserved for ST Category.

The BJP has fielded B.V. Ravindra, while  Swamy is the JD(S) candidate and R. Ravindra Kumar is contesting as the Congress candidate. Interestingly, the Congress and JD(S), who are ruling the MCC as coalition partners, are contesting separately.

With public campaigning coming to an end, the candidates are carrying out door-to-door campaign, making last minute efforts to woo the voters.

The ward comprises  Yadavagiri, Manjunathapura and Medar Block localities. MLA L.Nagendra is leading the BJP campaign while former MLA Vasu is in-charge of Congress campaign and City JD(S) President K.T. Cheluvegowda and former Mayor R. Lingappa are heading the JD(S) campaign.

The polling will take place between 7am and 5 pm on Feb.9 in 11 booths across the Ward. The counting of votes will be taken up on Feb.11.The by-poll will be the first test for the new  Mayor Tasneem, as ward-specific issues are likely to play a key role in the electoral battle.
