MCC’s cleaning of Raja Kaluve creating more problems

Mysuru: – The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has become the target of public ire by trying to solve one problem and creating another.

The storm water drain (Raja Kaluve) on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road has been cleaned but the garbage thus collected has been thrown on the roadside. When it rains heavily the garbage gets collected on the road thus affecting traffic. There is also fear of mosquito menace and spread of diseases.

The moment it starts raining heavily in city, the roads turn into lakes. Water enters homes and the people are put to untold hardships. The unscientific planning of storm water drains and the Raja Kaluves filled with garbage not being cleaned, such problems arise, say the public expressing their anger.

The media has brought this issue to the notice of the MCC several times and it has taken steps to clean the storm water drains a few times. Hence, the situation at times improves a bit. However, the citizens are upset that this has led to the problem of dumping of garbage on the roads.

The Raja Kaluve was cleaned near Shaktidhama 10 days ago with the help of a JCB and the garbage and silt from the drain is dumped on the roadside which is not been cleaned till now. This has resulted in mounds of rubbish gathered at the place for weeks. Instead of dumping, it could have been straight away filled into the trucks and cleared, feel the public.

Even though the reason given is that the garbage was wet waste and it could not be cleared on the same day, at least it could have been cleared the next day. Instead, leaving it in the open for days will only lead to spread of many diseases, fear the citizens.

As the road widening works is in progress, the road is very narrow from JSS College to Madhuvana. Now that the garbage is dumped on the road, the already narrow road has now become congested and the footpath encroached.

Hence, the pedestrians are forced to walk on this busy road risking their lives.

The MCC should intervene urgently to resolve the problem, urge the citizens.
