MDAA presents Nandi Awards

The Mysore district Athletic Association (MDAA), Mysuru, conferred  the ‘Nandi Awards 2018’ on the top athletes, sports promoter, sports journalist, sports photographer  at a function held at Maharaja’s Centenary Hall yesterday.

The MDAA honoured former International athlete, Uday K. Prabhu (Dhyanchand Awardee and Asian Games silver medallist). N. Chandrashekar Rai, EC Member, Athletics federation of India was felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, former International athlete Uday Prabhu said that MDAA is doing a wonderful job by conferring the top athletes with the prestigious Nandi Awards. He said ‘Nandi Awards’ inspire the sports persons, motivates them and will enable them to work more hard to achieve still further in different levels.’

Vasu, Chairman, MDAA, expressed his happiness with the MDAA choosing K. Manjunatha, a Mathematics teacher who took children from his school Vidyadarshini Convent, T.N. Pur to play sports and made them champion athletes and kho-kho players, for this year’s prestigious Nandi Award for Sports Promotion.

Manjunatha, Vidayadarshini Convent, Kurbur, T. Narsipur Tq, was conferred with the Distinguished Sports Promoter award. K. Nagarathna Bai, Principal Correspondent, The New Indian Express was conferred with the Distinguished Sports Journalist Award while K.H. Chandru, Photographer, Vijayavani, was conferred with Distinguished Sports Photographer Award.

The Nandi awards for best athletes were given to W.R. Harshitha (Women’s section), C.J. Chethan (Men’s section), M.R. Dhanusha (Junior women’s section), S.L. Sahana (Girls U-18), P. Asuthosh (Boys U-18) and Brunda S. Gowda (Girls U-14).

MDAA President & former International athlete Somashekar, Hon. Secretary B. Srikanth and other office-bearers were present during the award presentation ceremony.
