Mysore/Mysuru: Rich tributes were paid to Senior Journalist of city N. Niranjan Nikam and T. Narasipur Journalist M. Manjunath, who passed away recently, at a condolence meeting organised by Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) here this morning.
The meeting began with offering of floral tributes to the portraits of Niranjan Nikam and Manjunath.
Expressing his deep condolence, former University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa recalled his association with Nikam, who served as the Consultant of University of Mysore Centenary Celebrations.
Stating that Nikam exhibited exemplary skills in collecting required information, necessary data and vital inputs through his own sources, he recalled the valuable suggestions given by him. Maintaining that Nikam was an upright person who never compromised on work, Prof. Rangappa said that he can never forget Nikam’s smiling face and his humbleness while he served as UoM Consultant for three years.
Former UoM Prasaranga Director Prof. C. Naganna also paid tributes to Nikam.
Former MLA Vasu recalled his association with Niranjan Nikam when he worked for his newspaper and the educational institutions that he ran. Stating that the sudden demise of Nikam was extremely shocking for him, he called upon journalists to keep a close and constant watch on their health.
UoM Journalism faculty Prof. Niranjan Vanalli recalled the days when Nikam worked for Star of Mysore and Deccan Herald. Pointing out that Nikam had an affectionate association with SOM’s former Editor-in-Chief K.B. Ganapathy, Prof. Vanalli said that one should read KBG’s recent Abracadabra in Star of Mysore and Choomantra in Mysuru Mithra, that reflects on Niranjan’s personality.
MDJA President S.T. Ravikumar recalled the services of Niranjan as a journalist and his association with him when he served in SOM. He also recalled the services of T. Narasipur journalist M. Manjunath.
MDJA General Secretary M. Subramanya, Vice-President Anurag Basavaraj, Secretary Rangaswamy, Treasurer Nagesh Panathale, Journalists B. Raghavendra, Preethi Nagaraj, B. Srikantaswamy, C.H. Rajeev, Bannur K. Raju and others were present at the condolence meeting.
