Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore District Parents Association for Empowering Developmentally Disabled (MDPAEDD) observed World Autism Awareness Day at Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Seminar Hall, NIE, Mysuru on Apr.3.
Jayashree Shambal, Speech Pathologist and Head of the Department of Autism Disability at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, was the chief guest.
She appreciated the initiatives of MDPAEDD and encouraged families to utilise AIISH services such as speech therapy, vocational training and occupational therapy. The programme began with a welcome address by President Sudha Balakrishnan, followed by an invocation by Sudesh Pai. The chief guest was introduced by Hon. Secretary Jayashree.
Cultural performances by children formed the highlight of the event. Sudesh Pai, a differently abled individual, presented devotional songs and other songs on the keyboard while Daksha trainees Vivek, Srivatsa, Amar and Mayur performed group songs and dance under the guidance of S. Veena.
A yoga and dance by Aditya Ramamurthy, also a differently abled, was well received.
Sharmila, a differently abled, compered with confidence.
Special guests from NIE, Amjad and Gaikwad, assured support and technical assistance for initiatives benefiting persons with disabilities. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice-President Chandrashekar.
