Mysuru: Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that there is going to be moderate to heavy rainfall in the four districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu in the next three to four days.
The rains are due to the effect of Mecunae cyclone in the Arabian Sea and Kodagu is likely to receive heavy rainfall while in other districts there will be moderate to heavy rainfall, said P. Prakash, Senior Farm Superintendent, Organic Farm Research Station, Naganahalli, speaking to Star of Mysore, here this morning.
According to Prakash, the farmers have been advised to postpone the harvesting operations wherever the sowing has taken place and instead they have been asked to remove the excess water by letting them into the drainage canals.
Pulses, oilseed, maize and such other crops will be affected due to inundation of water and it should be safely drained out of the field, he said.
“The cyclonic storm from the Arabian Sea moves towards Africa at a speed of 300-400 km. However, like the Sagar cyclonic storm earlier, by the time Mecunae reaches these parts in Mysuru, it is completely weakened and hence there will not be storm or strong winds,” said Prakash. The next weather prediction will be done on May 29, he added.
