Poetess Dr. Latha Rajashekar at award presentation ceremony

Mysuru: Maintaining that politics had become all pervasive, poetess Dr. Latha Rajashekar has regretted that the print and electronic media are thrusting political news on readers and viewers everywhere.

She was speaking at the book release, Kavigoshti (Poets’ Meet) and award presentation programme organised by Mysuru Sahitya mattu Samskrutika Pratishtana at Ideal Jawa Rotary School premises on JLB Road in city on Sunday.

Noting that the media has reserved most of its time for politics, Dr. Latha Rajashekar opined that the media is making politics all pervasive, while ignoring other fields.

Bemoaning that the media is giving little prominence to other fields such as development, science and technology, innovations etc., she observed that the media is sensationalising politics and as such, even those having literary interests too are chasing politics.

Pointing out that Mysuru is home to literary and cultural activities, with events happening almost every other day, she said that giving a wide coverage will enthuse the organisers of such events.

Pointing out that organised efforts are needed for a peaceful and contented society, she said that the younger generation must now take the responsibility of saving our mother tongue Kannada, which has a long history.

Dr. Latha Rajashekar released writer Shyla P. Padukote’s book titled ‘Jenugudu,’ a collection of poems, on the occasion.

Also, Dr. K. Leela Prakash was conferred ‘Sahitya Saraswati’ award, G. Chandrakala ‘Samskrutika Seva Ratna’, Y.V. Yashoda Ramakrishna ‘Sahitya Sindu,’ D. Kenchegowda ‘Ranga Chatura’ and V. Tanvi                               ‘Balashri’ award.
