Medical Education Minister seeks clinical study of COVID reinfection

Bengaluru: Medical Education Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar has instructed officials to conduct a clinical study on Corona relapse cases in the State.

Speaking at a meeting with Task Force officials regarding COVID-19, he said a 27-year-old woman has developed the disease for a second time at a private hospital in city. This was not happening for the first time as several other countries have reported such cases.

Expressing concern about relapse in Bengaluru, he said the incident should be dealt carefully in order to drive away the fear from the minds of people.

An official said, when a person recovers from COVID-19, it will take at least 15 days to produce white blood cells. This might lead to reinfection in some patients. However, this cannot be considered as definite reason for the reinfection, he added.

Responding to this, Dr. Sudhakar sought clarity over Coronavirus  reinfection and  directed officials concerned to submit a report regarding the treatment of such cases in other States.
