Mega protest rally of tribals in Bengaluru on Mar.27

Mysuru: Opposing the Supreme Court judgement delivered on Feb.13 which would be allegedly detrimental for tribals in forests, a mega rally of tribals has been organised by Karnataka Rajya Moola Adivasi Vedike on Mar.27 in Bengaluru to urge the State Government to review the SC order.

Disclosing this at a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Vedike President P.K. Ramu recalled that the SC had delivered the judgement based on a petition filed by an NGO ‘Wildlife First.’ He said that the judgement would be alright if applicable only to people who have migrated recently to reside in forests. He opposed total eviction of all tribals from the forest who have been living in forests for a long time. He claimed that forest officials who are supposed to protect the rights of forest tribals have provided wrong information to SC regarding the tribals.

With no one to protect them, Ramu said, the protest rally would be taken out from Bengaluru City Railway Station to Freedom Park and a memorandum would be submitted to the Chief Secretary.

Vedike Members J.D. Jayappa, B.V. Basavaraj, Vijaykumar, Raju and others were present during the press meet.
