Mysuru: The theme of World Consumer Rights Day-2025 is “A just transition to sustainable lifestyles” along with “Greater protection and empowerment for consumers.” For Mysureans, the latter theme is urgent considering the near absence of Consumer Movement.
One telling example is the complete absence of any celebration of National Consumer Day last year on Dec. 24. To avoid such a sorry state of affairs, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has organised January monthly meeting to discuss how every educational institution can be involved to celebrate World Consumers Rights Day on Mar.15, 2025 and National Consumer Day in December.
The meeting will be held at MGP Office on Vivekananda Road, Yadavagiri, Mysuru on Sunday (Jan. 12) at 4 pm.
“If the youths can be taught the importance of consumer rights and responsibilities in Schools and Colleges in a creative way — not through lecturing or speeches — then it can go a long way,” says a press release from MGP.
“One possible way is for the Schools to have essay or poster competition (one such poster has been attached) or through street plays or discussion among students to make them creative and such strategies will be far more productive,” it stated.
Some Schools have already decided to ask the interested students to put MGP’s posters in some prominent places as a practical way to get involved in spreading consumer rights.
Tomorrow’s meeting will give the scope for all — specially teachers and NSS volunteers — to participate and to discuss ideas. Such a discussion may bring up some out-of-the-box ideas. With ever-increasing online frauds, World Consumer Rights Day has greater importance, the MGP press release noted.
