Mysore/Mysuru: Even as the city is staring at a possible drinking water crisis this summer due to poor rainfall, the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has submitted its action plan regarding water conservation and management to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
A MGP delegation comprising members K.V. Bhanuprashanth, Vishwanath, Arunkumar, Somashekar, Dr. Panduranga Murthy, Dayanand, Raghavendra and Shankar, met MCC Commissioner Dr. N.N. Madhu at her office here recently.
The action plan said that the MCC should first ensure prevention of possible water contamination. The MCC must undertake water treatment at the original source and supply water only after checking its quality. Water must be double chlorinated as there is every possibility of water getting contaminated during summer. The members of the public must be sensitised on prudent use of treated water.
The MCC should issue a caution to owners of households which have unauthorised water connections and the citizens who use water indiscriminately and waste it should be warned. Action must be taken against such people who do not pay heed to the MCC’s water conservation campaigns, the MGP said.
Other measures include prevention of leakage and pilferage of water in the supply network. Also all water connections should have meters. Promotion of rainwater harvesting and rejuvenation of all ground water sources must be a priority. Also, the MCC must take storm water flooding seriously and try to save water, the action plan said.
