Mysore/Mysuru: Urging the Government to announce a COVID package on the lines of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, Mid-Day Meal workers, under the banner of All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC)-affiliated Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Akshara Dasoha Sanghatane, staged an online demonstration by displaying placards from their homes on Friday.
Maintaining that there are 5,500 Mid-Day Meal workers (Akshara Dasoha scheme) in the district, including 800 in Mysuru city, the protesters demanded that the Government must come to their help in these critical times.
Condemning the Government’s decision to keep out Mid-Day Meal workers from the package, they said that Cooks are paid a meagre Rs. 2,700, while Helpers are getting a paltry Rs. 2,600 as monthly wages.
Asserting that there is perhaps no other workforce which is getting such low wages, they demanded payment of a decent salary for all the 12 months of a year.
Seeking vaccination for all Mid-Day Meal workers before the start of schools, they urged the Government to also provide them job security and health facilities.
The Sanghatane office-bearers S.H. Harish, Abhay Raj, Geethamma, Muddukrishna, Lakshmi, Jayalakshmi and others were present.
