Mid-day meal workers stage demonstration seeking payment of wages

Mysore/Mysuru: Mid-day meal workers, under the banner of  AITUC-affiliated Karnataka State Akshara Dasoha Mid-Day Meal Workers Federation, staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here this morning seeking payment of pending wages of four months.

Claiming that Head Cooks are paid a paltry salary of Rs. 2,700 and Assistant Cooks Rs. 2,600 as monthly honorarium, the protestors alleged that the Government has failed to release wages for the past four months, including wages during the  COVID-19 induced lockdown months of April and May.

Stating that their numerous representations to the Government seeking to fulfil their just demands have fallen on deaf ears, they urged the Government to pay them minimum wages and provide them  statutory benefits such as ESI, PF, Gratuity etc., besides regularising their service.

They also demanded a special package on the lines of the State Government’s relief package for workers of the unorganised sector.

AITUC office-bearers K.G. Somaraje Urs, Y. Mahadevamma and others took part in the protest.
