Milk packets will remind you about poll dates

Mysuru: The must have milk sachet at every household will henceforth remind you of the election dates in Karnataka – Apr. 19 and 23. For, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has decided to carry messages in all the Nandini milk and curd sachets urging people to vote. In a way, it is to remind the voters to exercise their legitimate right and bounden duty to vote.

Even the Mysore Milk Union Limited (MYMUL) that supplies milk to Mysuru and surrounding districts is spreading the voter awareness drive through milk sachets.

KMF, through its various milk unions across the State, sells more than 38 lakh litres of milk in plastic sachets. Milk sachets supplied to 14 districts in South Karnataka will have the date of election of Apr. 18, while the remaining districts will carry the date of Apr. 23.

KMF, which had undertaken the exercise during the 2014 Lok Sabha election too, is one of the various government agencies launching novel initiatives to urge the public to participate in the LS polls. MYMUL distributes more than seven lakh milk sachets daily through its milk parlours and outlets. Along with the voting dates, slogan Your Right, Your Vote, Vote Compulsorily is printed on the milk and curd sachets.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, MYMUL Managing Director Dr. M.S. Vijaykumar said the district-level Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee had directed all private and public organisations to involve in voter  awareness drive to increase the percentage of voting and work towards the success of the drive undertaken by SVEEP.

MYMUL has joined hands with SVEEP and is sensitising the voters already. Similar drive was held in the previous Assembly and 2014 LS polls too, he said.

“We have got directions from ZP CEO K. Jyothi, who is the SVEEP District Officer, to print the election date and slogan on milk and curd sachets to remind to people to come to the polling booth on Apr. 18 to vote compulsorily. This drive will be conducted by MYMUL till the elections are over,” he said.
