April 9, 2025

Disability not a limitation but an opportunity to showcase one’s talent

Mysuru: The Lions Club of Mysore West (LCMW) has announced the seventh edition of its flagship event, Lions West Health & Wellness Programme, in collaboration with Maharaja Education Trust Mysore and Dreams Inc.

Scheduled on Apr. 12, it is a major fund-raiser for the Club’s charitable initiatives. In addition to the 5K run, free health check-ups and other activities during the day, the centrepiece of the wellness programme will be ‘Miracle on Wheels,’ the first and only classical wheelchair dance theatre performance in India. This awe-inspiring troupe will showcase their remarkable talents and abilities, demonstrating that disability is not a limitation but an opportunity to showcase extraordinary strength. The performance will feature a breathtaking blend of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and other folk traditions, all seamlessly executed on wheelchairs.

Directed by Dr. Syed Sallauddin Pasha, a national award-winning choreographer and pioneer of Therapeutic Dance Theatre, the show promises to be an emotional and uplifting experience. It will highlight the power of inclusion and celebrate the incredible abilities of individuals with disabilities. Their extraordinary performance has earned them recognition in the Guinness World Records and the Limca Book of Records.

“This wellness programme is not just about promoting well-being, but also about making a significant impact on the lives of those who need it most,” said Dr. Chethan, President of LCMW, adding: “This fund-raiser will make a meaningful difference and we invite the community to come together for this important cause.”

The proceeds from this event would be used towards supporting various service projects of the Club such as student scholarships, girl child education, skill development  projects for women empowerment and the Kidney Endowment Fund that provides subsidised dialysis to needy renal failure patients. Besides helping the renal failure patients, the Lions Club of Mysore West also provides artificial limbs to the needy, runs a CBSE school, contributes towards children’s education including martyred armed forces personnel and conducts vocational training programmes for the underprivileged sections of society.

The performance will be held at Maharaja’s College Grounds at 6 pm. Donor passes are available at BookMyShow. For details contact Mob: 88845-64489 or 70900-00676.
