Villagers urge for a dedicated team to curb poachers
Mandya: In a cruel act, a few miscreants have injured a Pelican at Madarahalli, Bharathinagar in the district on Saturday and the veterinarians say that the bird can never fly again.
Sources said that the doctors at Kokkarebellur, who treated the injured Pelican, said that the bird would not be able to fly again and added that the pelican was found unconscious in the backwaters of Sulekere in Bharathinagar with severe injuries on its right wing.
Meanwhile, the villagers alleged that several bird hunters were on the prowl in the surrounding villages, making Pelicans vulnerable and demanded the Police and the Forest Department to launch an investigation into the incident besides demanding to form a dedicated team to curb Pelican hunting.
