Decamp with cash & gold jewellery

Nanjangud: Miscreants, on the pretext of inspecting a house they wanted to take on rent, assaulted an elderly woman and decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from the house yesterday.

The incident took place at the house of Girish, a teacher and residing near Sai Baba Temple at Devirammanahalli Layout in the town. Girish had put up a board in front of his house stating that the first floor house was available on rent.

Yesterday at about 2 pm, two persons came to the house when Girish’s mother 65-year-old Dakshayinamma was alone and told her that they wanted to take the house on rent following which Dakshayinamma took the house keys and went to the first floor, followed by the two men.

When she opened the door and entered the house, the two men allegedly overpowered her, tied her up and brutally assaulted her causing grievous injuries rendering her unconscious.

The two men then came to the ground floor, ransacked the belongings and decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from the house.

When Girish came to the house in the evening, he could not find his mother on the ground floor following which he went to the first floor and was shocked to see his mother tied up, sustained serious injuries and unconscious.

Girish then rushed his mother to a hospital, where she was provided first-aid and later she was admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru.
