Mysore/Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA K. Harishgowda has assured Newspaper Distributors that he will make honest efforts for providing adequate and appropriate space for carrying out their work.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 7th anniversary of Jilla Adhikruta Patrika Pratinidhigala Sangha and Pratibha Puraskara programme at Patrakartara Bhavan here recently.
Reiterating that he would strive hard for fulfilling the longstanding demand of Newspaper Distributors for appropriate space, Harishgowda lauded the Newspaper Distributors who carry out their work braving the sun, rain, chilly weather etc.
Pointing out that there are over a thousand Newspaper Distributors in the city, the MLA advised them to form a Co-operative Society as it will help in their economic empowerment and also enable them getting Government benefits. The Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) should come out in support for the cause, he added.
Senior litterateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK) said that the Newspaper Distributors are doing a great job in delivering newspapers at the doorsteps of readers everyday, braving the vagaries of weather.
MDJA President S.T. Ravikumar also spoke. State Newspaper Distributors Federation President K. Shambhulinga complimented the Government for coming forward to provide insurance cover to Newspaper Distributors. The CM has also assured to set up a welfare fund in the forthcoming State Budget, he added.
Tributes were paid to senior Newspaper Distributor Paper Subbanna, who passed away recently. Rajyotsava awardee Newspaper Distributor Javarappa was felicitated and Pratibha Puraskara was presented to meritorious children of Newspaper Distributors who had scored high marks in SSLC and PUC (2022-23).
Also, financial aid was given to an ailing senior Newspaper Distributor on the occasion. Sangha President P. Suresh, Vice-President K.N. Venkatesh Babu, General Secretary A. Ravi, Treasurer M.N. Prakash, J.S. Homdev and others were present on the occasion.
