Mysuru: A day-long District-Level Yuvajanotsava – 2024 organised by Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), in association with District Administration, Zilla Panchayat (ZP), Nehru Yuva Kendra, National Service Scheme (NSS), University of Mysore (UoM), Maharani’s Science College for Women, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) was inaugurated by MLA Tanveer Sait at Chamundi Vihar Stadium here this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Tanveer Sait said that youths, apart from concentrating on their regular curriculum, must also take part in co-curricular activities such as dance, sports among others which help in developing competitive spirit.
Adding that institutions such as NSS, NCC and Nehru Yuva Kendra have been inspiring the youth to serve the society without any expectations, Tanveer Sait said that there was a need for more such institutions to build a clean and corruption-free society.
He also lauded the State Government and DYES for organising Yuvajanotsava, which provides a platform for the youths to showcase their talents and promotes participation spirit.
The competitions were held in 11 categories including Folk Dance (Group), Folk Dance (Individual), Folk Song (Group), Folk Song (Individual), Poetry Writing, Story Writing, Painting, Declamation Writing (Hindi and English language to take part in National-level Yuvajanotsava; Kannada to take part in State-level Yuvajanotsava), Photography, Handicrafts (for artisans to contest for Yuva Kirthi), Textile and Agro Products.
More than 500 youths in the age group of 15-29 years from various educational institutions and associations across the district took part in today’s event. The winners of the District-level will represent Mysuru district in the State-level Yuvajanotsava which the DYES plans to organise in Mysuru next year.
The winners in the competitions will be awarded with cash prizes, certificates and mementoes during the valedictory ceremony to place this evening.
DYES had also organised Science Exhibition under the theme ‘Innovation in Science and Technology’ for students at the stadium.
The students displayed various models showcasing their innovative skills. The competition was held in individual and team categories.
DYES Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak, Nehru Yuva Kendra District Youth Officer Abhishek S. Savare and University of Mysore NSS Programme Co-ordinator Dr. M.B. Suresh and others were present.
