Mysuru: By cancelling the allotments of sites distributed under MUDA’s 50:50 ratio scheme, the Government has managed to avert what could have been a major embarrassment during the ongoing Legislature Session.
Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa and Legislative Council Member R. Raghu Kautilya had raised a series of questions with Urban Development Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah regarding the MUDA scam and what the Government has done so far on it.
Sources said that these questions were likely to cause considerable discomfort to the Government in the House. The cancellation order has helped Government sidestep the situation.
Welcoming the Government’s decision to cancel 50:50 sites, Srivatsa stressed that strict action must also be taken against illegal allotments made since 2019.
The MLA pointed out that merely cancelling 1,100 allotments was not enough and that a deeper investigation into allotments made since 2019 would expose many more irregularities.
He recalled that public pressure, including his own, had led the Government to constitute the ne-member inquiry commission. Based on its report, the Government has now annulled 50:50 allotments made since 2023.
He insisted that, apart from cancelling allotments, legal proceedings must be initiated against all officials and public representatives involved in the alleged scam.
