Even as the political slugfest between the two leaders has escalated recently, JD(S) rebel MLA Chaluvarayaswamy’s supporters allegedly assaulted the supporters of former Nagamangala Congress MLA Suresh Gowda at Kenchanahalli near Basaralu in the taluk yesterday.

Suresh Gowda Fans Association President Praveen and his friend Sandeep, who sustained injuries in the assault, were treated at a local hospital.

The assault is said to be a fallout of the bypoll held to a Taluk Panchayat seat recently.

Praveen and Sandeep were returning to Mandya in a car after having dinner at a friend’s house in Kenchanahalli, when they were intercepted by a group of Cheluvarayaswamy’s followers and assaulted with lethal weapons.

Cheluvarayaswamy’s followers are also said to have ransacked the office of Suresh Gowda Fans Assn. at Nagamangala town.
