Mysore/Mysuru: The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, has granted accreditation to the Department of Surgical Oncology, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), to offer super specialty DrNB (Doctorate of National Board) in Surgical Oncology.
The NBEMS has allocated two seats for the Department of Surgical Oncology of the institute, for which the admission process is expected to be held from January, 2026 through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG).
Speaking to Star of Mysore, MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani confirmed the allocation of DrNB seats in Surgical Oncology and said that the institution had also applied to National Medical Council (NMC) to grant permission to offer MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) in Urology and Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Nephrology.
This is only the second superspeciality training programme being offered by MMC&RI and the first DrNB surgical oncology training programme in Karnataka outside Bengaluru.
Currently, the full-fledged Department of Surgical Oncology has been functioning at Princess Krishnajammanni Super Speciality Hospital on KRS Road in city.
The Department consists of two faculty members Professor Dr. S.S. Prakash and Assistant Professor Dr. M. Srinidhi.
