Moderate showers bring some respite to fire ravaged Bandipur Forest

Nagarahole too receives rain

Light to moderate showers being received in Bandipur Reserve Forest since Saturday has brought some relief in parts of the forest which was ravaged by fire recently.

Forest officials, who are heaving a sigh of relief, are hoping that there would be more rains in the next few days.

As heavy rains are lashing Masinagudi, Mudumalai, Ooty and surrounding places, this resulted in Moolehole, Hediyala, Gundre and Kundagere ranges in Bandipur receiving rains since Saturday and the ponds, which had dried up, are now filled with some water, making deers, birds and small animals coming back to the waterholes.

In Nagarahole, Metikuppe, Kallahalla and Antharasanthe ranges received scattered rainfall. Sources said that though the rains were enough for the vegetation to sprout again, continuous rains would really help and added that high alert would continue, till the forest receives good spell of rains as the present showers was not enough to overcome the threat of fresh fires.
