More than 20 injured as safari bus rams into tree

Incident at Kakanakote Safari area in Antharasanthe Forest Range of H.D. Kote

Mysuru: More than 20 visitors to Kakanakote safari located at Antharasanthe Forest Range in Dammanakatte, H.D. Kote, were injured after the safari bus they were travelling rammed into a tree last evening.

The safari centre witnessed a usual weekend rush with visitors coming from Mysuru, Bengaluru and other places for a safari ride.

Similarly, a group of 25 visitors from Bengaluru, who had booked for safari online, arrived at the centre, bought the tickets and boarded the safari bus at 3 pm. The incident occurred at about 5 pm when they were returning. Nagendra, the safari driver, failed to control the speed resulting in the bus ramming into the tree. As a result, more than 20 visitors suffered injuries.

On learning about the incident, Forest officials and staff rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to H.D. Kote Taluk Hospital for treatment.

Later, the officers also visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of                                  the injured.

The Forest officers have been collecting information about the incident. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Antharasanthe Police Station.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver received a call with information about tiger sighting at one particular location.

Following this, the driver headed towards the location in full speed. While they were already four vehicles on the location and this being the fifth, the driver drove the vehicle in full speed resulting in the bus ramming into the tree.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Dr. Somanna of H.D. Kote Taluk Hospital said that 14 visitors were brought to the hospital for treatment, out of which 3-4 persons had suffered severe injuries and were shifted to Mysuru for advance treatment after administering preliminary treatment.
