Hanur: In a heart wrenching incident, a woman and her two daughters met their watery grave after they allegedly slipped into water at Gopinatham dam in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagar district on Friday.
Meena (34), wife of Ayyan, resident of Pudur village near Gopinatham, her daughters Pavitra (14) and Keerthi (11) are the deceased persons.
As it was a summer vacation for school, the two sisters, along with their brother Surendra, had accompanied their mother for washing clothes at the river in the afternoon.
Meena was rinsing the clothes when she allegedly slipped into water. Her two daughters also jumped into water to rescue their mother, but all the three were washed away by the strong current of water.
Surendra, who was shocked over seeing his mother and sisters drowning in water, rushed home to inform his father. However, by the time they reached the dam, the mother and daughters had met their tragic end.
Police attached to MM Hills Police Station retrieved the bodies with the help of the villagers. The bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem at the hospital in the hills.
A case has been registered by MM Hills Police.
