Mother, children prevented from jumping into Kapila

Nanjangud: A woman, fed up with the behaviour of her drunkard husband, tried to jump into the Kapila River along with her two children and attempted suicide. The incident occurred on Aug.2.

Seeing the woman jumping into the river and sensing her intentions, the Temple authorities along with the Police have rescued Jaya, a resident of Sunnadakeri in Mysuru and her children.

Jaya, earlier a resident of Bogadi, was married to Sunnadakeri resident Shivakumar six years ago. Shivakumar, who is a granite worker, had taken to drinking alcohol and spending all his earnings on drinks.

Jaya, who found it difficult to lead her life, borrowed some money from the neighbours and set up a tea stall where she suffered losses. Realising that her husband would not mend his wayward ways, she decided to take the extreme step and reached Hadinaru Kalu Manatapa here and was getting ready to jump into the river. The temple staff saw this and with the help of the Police prevented her from jumping into the water. The Police called her husband, took a letter from him promising that he would behave well and then sent the family back to Mysuru.
