My mother-in-law is the best !

Mysuru: The single most radioactive topic among families is the tension between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. Their constant bickerings and fights for dominance irks the menfolks no end.

If this is a common scene inside most of the households, a rare bonhomie was witnessed between many mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law where their creativity and love for each other came out in the open.

The platform was a competition that was organised by Mahila Dasara Sub-Committee under ‘Adarsha Atthe-Sosey’ contest at the JK Grounds here yesterday to select the ideal mother-in-law and daughter-in-law combination.

More than 15 pairs of mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law including a Tibetan pair participated in the contest and a few of the daughters-in-law were in wedding attire.

Each pair was given a time of 30 minutes and the assessment was made based on a quiz to judge compatibility and a song and dance contest.

The contest was inaugurated by Nagalakshmi Bai, Chairperson, State Women’s Commission. Women Development Corporation Chairperson K. Susheela Shashidar, Zoo Authority of Karnataka Chairperson Mallige Veeresh, Deputy Mayor Ratna Lakshman and others were present.

Competitions like pick-and-act, quiz, balloon games and blind-fold identification games added fun to the event. Women from Nanjangud, T.Narasipur and Hunsur taluks participated in large numbers.

In her address, Nagalakshmi Bai expressed happiness seeing the happy pairs engaged in fun-filled activities. “It is hard to find mother-and daughter-in-law pairs who understand each other. The Women and Child Welfare Department receives complaints from women about torture by their mothers-in-law,” she said.
