Motorcycle pillion-rider killed in mishap

Mysuru: A pillion rider was killed on the spot while the rider escaped with minor injuries when the motorcycle they were riding, was knocked down by an Eicher-Tempo on R.T. Nagar Ring Road in city last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Govindashetty (56), a Health Inspector serving at Nanjangud.

Govinda Shetty, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar in city, was returning home from work on Hero Honda Motorcycle (KA-09 EX-7856) with Shivashankar, 26, a Computer Operator with the Health and Family Welfare Department at Nanjangud, riding the motorcycle.

As the two were on way travelling on R.T. Nagar Ring Road at about 5.40 pm, a speeding Eicher Tempo knocked down the motorcycle from behind, killing Govindashetty on-the-spot, while the rider Shivashankar escaped with minor injuries.

The Eicher vehicle fled from the spot without stopping, it is learnt.

The K.R. Traffic Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
