MP distributes laptops to UoM Backward Class research students

Mysore/Mysuru: MP Pratap Simha distributed laptops to the University of Mysore (UoM) Backward Class research students at a programme organised under the aegis of Backward Class Research Students Forum at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus here this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Simha asked the students to stay away from caste and community politics and to focus only on studies in the interest of their career and professional growth.

Stressing on the need for the students to maintain discipline and unity in University campuses, he said that apart from their academics, it is also important for students to develop a sense of belonging and oneness.

The MP distributed 30 laptops, sponsored by ITC Ltd., under its CSR initiative. H.G. Deepa Buddhe, a transgender research scholar, who is said to be the only transgender to pursue a Doctoral degree in the State,  was one among the beneficiaries.

Deepa is doing Ph.D on the topic ‘Life and livelihood struggles of gender minorities in Mysuru-Chamarajanagar district.’

UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar presided.

UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa, former UoM and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa, ITC Ltd. Assistant Manager A.S. Poornesh, Syndicate Members Dr. Chaitra Narayana,                     Dr. E.C. Ningarajgowda and M.B. Gappanna, UoM OBC Cell Co-ordinator Prof. B.V. Suresh Kumar and others were present.
