Mysore/Mysuru: Amidst the raging controversy over illegal site allotment by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the ongoing blame game between Congress and the Opposition parties shifting the responsibility on each other, the Mysuru Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has initiated an online petition seeking an independent investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and transparency.
The petition, ‘Mother of all corruption in MUDA – MGP needs your support’ filed in change.org says that the MUDA land scam, involving thousands of crores of rupees, presents a rare opportunity for the public to make history in the fight against corruption in Mysuru.
Despite over 15 letters urging action against the MUDA commissioner regarding the scam, no action was taken. When crisis finally exploded, the officers involved were merely transferred instead of being suspended.
The public soon learnt that the Chief Minister’s wife was one of the beneficiaries, although the CM claimed she had been shortchanged — a misfortune many poor farmers wish they had. Despite calls to hand over the case to the CBI for an independent investigation, both the CM and the Home Minister have categorically refused this justified request, the petition states.
The MUDA 50:50 scam is just the tip of the iceberg, revealed former Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar’s report that was prepared over 20 years ago. It exposed extensive land grabbing by several political leaders from all parties.
The report was never made public, and honest and daring DCs who attempted to implement its findings were either transferred overnight or made to suffer. If a large number of people sign this petition, it would be impossible for the Government to ignore the request.
