Multi-crore gold scam: 4 more cases registered against Chinnathambi

Mysuru: Four more cases have been registered against Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi, who is accused of cheating thousands of customers by luring them with advertisements offering gold loans at low interest rates and thus cheating them after getting their gold ornaments pledged with him.

While two cases were registered at Nazarbad Police Station, two more cases were registered at Kuvempunagar Police Station on Sunday.

A woman from Arakalgud in Hassan district, in her complaint, has stated that on Apr. 14, she had come to Chinnathambi-owned DGF Gold and Diamonds located in Ittigegud to pledge her 40-gram gold chain. She has alleged that her gold chain was melted to check its purity without obtaining her consent.

The complaint added that when she asked to give her gold chain back, Chinnathambi, who came there, told her that if she persists, she would not even get the money and threatened her with life. Hence, she had to go back.

In another case, a woman from Holenarasipur in Hassan has lodged a complaint at Kuvempunagar Police Station stating that she had given her gold ornaments to Chinnathambi to sell it, but the gold ornaments were melted without her permission. She was then told that the purity of her gold was less following which she asked to return her gold ornaments.

She has further stated that Chinnathambi held her hands under the pretext of pacifying her and when her husband began to question him, he was locked in a room. She has alleged that Chinnathambi told her that if she wanted her gold back, she has to come to the place told by him and co-operate with him. Shocked and with fear, they returned back.

In the third case registered at Nazarbad Police Station, a woman from city has stated in her complaint that she had gone to Chinnathambi to sell her 30-gram gold chain. During which she was told that the purity of the gold was less. But when she asked to return her gold chain, she was assaulted by goondas and on pleading, she was given a cheque for Rs. 3.30 lakh which got bounced on producing in Bank.

In the fourth case, another woman from city, has lodged a complaint at Nazarbad Police Station.

In her complaint, the woman has stated that she released her gold ornaments pledged in a Bank and took them to Chinnathambi, who without her permission went forward to melt the gold. When she questioned about it, he behaved in an obscene manner and assaulted her brother.
