Murder accused lodged in Mysuru Jail tests positive

Mysore/Mysuru: An accused, who was brought from Bengaluru in connection with a murder case in city, has tested positive for COVID-19. He was placed in the Mysuru Central Jail.

The accused was hiding in Bengaluru and the Police were on his hot chase. The accused reportedly surrendered to the Police yesterday. As he was hiding in Bengaluru where there are many COVID cases, the Jail authorities decided to subject him for Coronavirus tests. Accordingly, his throat samples were taken two days back and were sent to laboratory for tests. Now the results have come and the accused has contracted the disease, Health Department sources said.

Though there is no official confirmation on the shifting of the accused to the designated COVID-19 Hospital, authorities have sanitised the jail cell where he was lodged. All the other 20 inmates in the cell have been shifted to an exclusive cell and their swab tests too will be conducted. The entire jail block where the accused stayed and roamed around have been sanitised.
