September 2, 2017

Mysuru: A City Court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to three years imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 1.10 lakh on him for attempting to murder a widow, who refused to love him. Prakash, a resident of Gopalapura in Jayapura hobli of the taluk, is the one who has been sentenced. Bhavya of Mavinahalli had married one Mahesh of Devarahosahalli in Nanjangud a few years ago. But Mahesh died a few months after marriage due to illness, following which Bhavya returned to Mavinahalli and worked for a garments factory at Belavadi to make a living.

Even as she worked for the garments factory, she got introduced to Prakash who worked in a nearby industry. Sometime later, Prakash began to pester Bhavya to love him, which she refused.

Prakash, who was upset over Bhavya spurning his love, went to Mavinahalli and entered her house by removing roof tiles on the night of Dec.30, 2014 and assaulted her with a machete several times. Hearing Bhavya’s scream for help, her neighbours came to her rescue, by which time Prakash had fled from the spot.

Jayapura Police, who had registered a case, arrested Prakash a day later and filed a charge-sheet against him in the Court.

The 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Vijayakumar M. Anand Shetty convicted Prakash and sentenced him. Public Prosecutor H.D. Anand Kumar argued for the State.
