Music concert at Ganabharathi by Vidu. Kalavathi Avadhoot

Mysuru: Ganabharathi has organised a vocal concert by Vidu. Kalavathi Avadhoot on June 30 at 6 pm.

She will be accompanied by Vidu. H.M. Smitha on violin, Vid. B.C. Manjunath on mridanga and Vid. Karthik on kanjira at the concert.

Artiste’s profile

Vidu. Kalavathi hails from a family of musicians. Being the daughter of the illustrious musician couple Sangeetha Kalaratna Bangalore K. Venkatram and Gamaka Kala Kogile G.R. Jaya, Kalavathy had music running in the family.

After the initial training under mother, Vidu. G.R. Jaya and then Vidu. Usha Char, Kalavathi had her intensive training under Ganakala Bhushana Anoor. S. Ramakrishna. She also learnt under Vidu. Seethalakshmi Venkateshan and is now learning under Vid. P.S. Narayanaswamy of Chennai.

Kalavathi has performed all over India in major Sabhas of Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Trichy, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Ballari etc.

She has toured the USA in the year 1999 under ‘Nada Tarangini.’ She has also toured Amsterdam and Netherlands in the year 2005 under ‘Karnatak Lab.’

Kalavathi has lent her voice for art movies like ‘Madhwacharya’, ‘Ramanujacharya’, ‘Bhagavad Gita’ etc. under the direction of G.V. Iyer and B.V. Karanth with the musical legend Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna.

She has cut several discs and cassettes of Devaranamas and Classical thematic CDs.

Kalavathi is the recipient of many awards and prizes like    All India Radio Music Competition Prize, ‘Best Main Musician’ awarded by Karnataka Gana Kala Parishath, Indian Fine Arts Society,  Ananya Yuva Puraskara and Gana Kala Shree.
