It’s been 11 years since the Mridangam maestro Karnataka Kalashree Vid. P. G. Lakshminarayana has departed from us. Popularly known as PGL (‘Prouda Gambhira Layavadaka’ as described by another great thinker G.T. Narayana Rao) in music circles, he was a Guru in a true sense and an artist par excellence.
In his memory, PGL Samsmarana Vedike has been organising music concerts for the past one decade and this year also music concerts are arranged on Dec. 13 and 14 at 6 pm at Vasudevacharya Bhavana on JLB Road.
On 13th, there would be a Karnatak music vocal concert by Vid. T. V. Ramaprasad accompanied by Vid. Vittal Ramamurthy on violin, Vid. Thiruvarur Bhakthavatsalam on mridanga and Vid. G. Ravichandran on ghata and on 14th, there would be a Karnatak music vocal concert by Vidu. A. Vasudha Keshav accompanied by Vid. Achyutha Rao on violin, Vid. C. Cheluvaraju on mridanga and Vid. Gurumurthy on ghata.
Vid. Thiruvarur Bhakthavatsalam and Vid. T. P. Vaidyanathan, a Senior artiste from Mysuru, would be felicitated on 13th and 14th respectively. Connoisseurs of music may attend in large numbers. — A rasika
